The Glitter of Manhattan Portage…

March 10th, 2015 Posted in accessories, Fashion, Handbags | No Comments »

This time all that glitters is gold!  With it’s many great features of generous depth to fit more on-the-go necessities, leather-free, overall practicality (and even comes with velcro silencing patches), and attractive styling (eye catchingly glittery non-glitter good whether for day or night), I knew I had to own a bag from Manhattan Portage’s newly introduced Midnight Collection.  I first saw the collection at the Manhattan Portage/Token flagship store located on Elizabeth Street in New York, but regretfully realized later on I should have purchased something from the Midnight Collection that very visit.   You know how it goes when something you like lingers on your mind ;)…  Well, maybe waiting became a virtue because months later, the Midnight Collection was further expanded with such awesome designs such as the mini messenger pictured below.  Had to snag that baby up!

Getting Organized with Walker Bags

September 25th, 2014 Posted in accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Organization, Style & Fashion | No Comments »

My recent solution to messy contents sloshing around in my handbag are the helpful and lovely double zip pocket Walker Bags.  I love them in metallic mesh for their elegance, though they do come in a range of other playful colors and even in single pockets.

Leather Backpacks

January 28th, 2013 Posted in accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Organization | No Comments »

Many years ago when I first began my graduate program, I carried a very handsome and dependable Perlina black leather backpack.  I remembered one snowy night, quite like today, I decided to walk home rather than to wait for the bus (which was uncharacteristically delayed).  The backpack had survived my walk through the harsh weather much to my surprise and delight.  As soon as I arrived home, I toweled off the snow to preserve the leather.  Pictured below is one which looks identical to mine.  One feature I loved most about it besides its buttery soft leather was its very convenient side-zip.

These days trying to find a nice leather backpack feels like trying to search for a needle in a haystack.  Only every once in a while will you find a really special one (sorry if it sounds overly critical of me).  Wish I didn’t allow Rebecca Minkoff’s to get away a couple years back =(.  Just recently I spotted one by OrYany and can see for myself why it has received such rave reviews!

Rebecca Minkoff’s & Lanvin’s Cute Crossbodys

August 22nd, 2012 Posted in Fashion, Handbags | No Comments »

I’ve finally discovered the joy of crossbodys after putting aside a long time bias towards those extra large satchels.  It’s a choice of carrying your essentials versus all those what-ifs (which many times do not come to fruition) and especially a no brainer when shoulder and backaches are concerned.  Minkoff and Lanvin does it in style, I must say!  Light, aery, unburdened and ready to shop, shop, shop ;)…

Rebecca Minkoff’s & Lanvin’s Cute Crossbodys

February 8th, 2012 Posted in Fashion, Handbags | No Comments »

I’ve been loving crossbody bags recently for the obvious reasons (hands-free option and when a big heavy bag isn’t preferable).  They are great for date nights (especially theater nights) and when you need to carry only necessities for classes or on errands.  Here are two favorites of mine:

Rebecca Minkoff Classics MAC Crossbody Clutch:

“Oversized clip-lock boldly details the front flap pocket of a lightly textured leather clutch designed with an optional chain strap for versatility.

  • Top zip closure.
  • Exterior zip pocket under flap.
  • Protective metal feet.
  • Interior zip, wall and cell phone pockets; key clip.
  • Logo-print lining.
  • Leather.
  • Imported.”

Lanvin Metallic Chain Crossbody Bag:

“Signature ribbon-detailed chain strap completes the utterly feminine look of this metallic lambskin bag.

  • Bronze quilted lambskin and self piped trim.
  • Chain shoulder strap with black leather top and ribbon detail on side.
  • Golden hardware; front zip with loop slider.
  • Pleated corners.
  • Fabric lining; inside open pockets.
  • 11 1/2″H x 14″W x 5″D.
  • Made in Italy.”

On Holiday with Vera Bradley’s Grand Traveler & Weekender

July 17th, 2011 Posted in accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Trips | No Comments »

Recently my husband and I traveled to England and Wales.  I brought my Vera Bradley Viva La Vera Weekender as my carry-on and really loved this bag for its generous pockets and ease of carrying.  It kept all my belongings well organized and nicely accessible;  with the added plus of being made with cheery patterned, soft but thick quilted fabric reminding me of the comforts of home (think quilted-comforter).  I’m also very interested in the Grand Traveler in Folkloric for a short domestic getaway.  Other great prints include the Watercolors, Happy Snails, Mocha Rouge, Sittin in a Tree, Deco Daisy, and retired Peacock (which can still be found on e.g. eBay and perhaps other places if you looked hard enough).

Handbag Phenom: Onna Ehrlich

June 20th, 2011 Posted in Fashion, Handbags | No Comments »

I’m lusting over Onna Ehrlich’s Francoise Croco Bowler and Dawn Croco handbags!  They are so gorgeous, roomy, and look well-made!  Simple design- I love that because some handbags are wayyy overly designed… ugh…  I’ve only seen these two particular bag styles offered no more than once or twice in sample sales.  Both times I missed out =(.  Drat!

Kate Spade: Just a Few Handbags I’ve Been Loving!

June 14th, 2011 Posted in accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Style & Fashion | No Comments »

Do you remember the Kate Spade Sam?  The “it” bag of 2000?  It was a classic minimalistic (I mean this in a good way) handbag which was quite cute.  I bought it in black and a deep silvery-grey (eventually we parted ways via eBay).  My qualm about the Sam was that it was too bulky as a good shoulder bag.  I was sad that I had to sell it but it was the right thing to do.  I’ve always been in love with Kate Spade’s 7″x5″organizers and re-fills- cute, cute!  Kate Spade has caught my attention again with her lovely Maryanne, Billie, and Kennywood.  Such beautiful shoppers and totes!  May I say, I adore the gold metallic dot-jacquard lining!  The Maryanne has the timeless elegance of a Chanel without the outrageous price tag.  I suggest you save up for this one!  Worth every penny!!!

My Favorite Timbuk2

June 2nd, 2011 Posted in Fashion, Handbags | No Comments »

I should have written on this very topic years ago, so better late than never.  I love the Timbuk2 in blackberry, plum, and lavender (can you tell I love purple?) and wish they didn’t discontinue these pretty colors.  Too bad at the time I didn’t realize how much I liked this trio; I would have bought the laptop messenger version in a heartbeat.  I also wish all their bags had interior mesh pockets on the sides (perfect to hold a large water bottle or eyeglasses/sunglasses).  I will have to make do with altering a beerdaleer for this task.  Please bring BPL back Timbuk2!  I would love you more!
