Lush Review: The Ex-Factor Bath Cocktail

August 19th, 2011 Posted in beauty products, Cosmetics, Lush Reviews, Spa Retreat | No Comments »

A perfect bath to chase away any blues (post-breakup or otherwise).  This bath cocktail has a citrus-lime fragrance punctuated by a muskiness/woodsiness.  It’s quite masculine; I didn’t mind though (kind of like sleeping in a boyfriend’s t-shirt).  Reminds me slightly of Aquolina’s Blue Sugar (would be great to use post-bath for guys).  Once I bought a small pot of vegan lotion dupe for Blue Sugar from Etsy as part of a sampler set and loved it!  I suggest this wonderful sky blue bath cocktail as an anytime detox soak or stress reliever…

1 Ex-Factor Bath Ballistic: Sweet, candy vanilla.  1 Ex-Factor will be more than enough; you can even use a 1/2 chunk.   Like most of Lush’s bath ballistics, this is a fast fizzer.

1/2 Blue Skies & Fluffy White Clouds Bubble Bar: This scent is similar to the Big Blue bath bomb only a little more mild and sweet.  At first whiff, there seems to be a nuttyness similar to those in chocolate candy bars e.g. Snickers.  Not sure if I was imaging this?  I think of it as the more masculine counterpart to The Comforter Bubble Bar.

  • Patchouli oil
  • Frankincense resinoid
  • Cinnamon leaf oil

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.  I loved Happy Blooming with the other elements I chose for this bath!

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

Lush Review: Post-Tax Prep Bath Cocktail

May 11th, 2011 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Toiletries | No Comments »

This bath cocktail was a welcome rest for a tired mind!  A beautiful mauvy pink, sweet scented bath.  The flower petals made me feel like I was bathing in a tea infusion =).  Here is what you will need to recreate this bath:

1 Calavera Bath Ballistic: Large bath ballistic which is sweet and citrusy with mild floral accents.

  • Lime oil
  • Neroli oil
  • Marigold petals

1/2 The Comforter Bubble Bar: Sweetart scented.  I absolutely love it.  Really easily crumbled under running water or within a plastic baggy.  Fast melt within water.

  • bergamot oil
  • cassis absolute (fruity blackcurrant fragrance)
  • cypress oil

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

*Recommended Soap: Rock Star Soap

Lush Review: Smurfette’s Bath Cocktail

March 1st, 2011 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Spa Retreat, Toiletries | No Comments »

I had a refreshing and enjoyable bath cocktail today.  Florally sweet and watermelon red.  This bath would have been a favorite of Smurfette…

1 Cinders Bath Ballistic: It does remind me of cinnamon, sweet orange, and apple juice.  Very quick fizz.  I only wish this bath bomb was bigger since bath ballistics normally aren’t cheap.  I’m glad they had a post-holiday sale recently and all of their limited edition products were 50% off woohoo!  Cinders was one of those bath bombs which had alluded me last year and I was thrilled to finally have a chance to try this year.

  • Fizzy candy
  • Gardenia Florida extract
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Orange oil
  • Cinnamomum cassia leaf oil

1 Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar: Slightly strawberry candy scented.  Really cute bubble bar.  So moisturizing!

  • Olibanum oil
  • Bergamot oil
  • Geranium oil
  • Vanilla absolute
  • Jasmine absolute
  • Tonka absolute

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

I guess I was in a strawberry mood today and followed up with The Body Shop’s body butter in Strawberry =)

Lush Review: The Baker’s Bath Cocktail

January 31st, 2011 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Spa Retreat, Toiletries | No Comments »

How can I describe this???  I sweet scented peanut buttery bath which turned from a gorgeous teal to a milky tan after I added the Happy Blooming Bath Melt.  I have more Fizzbanger and will probably try it with my leftover half of

1 Fizzbanger Bath Ballistic: Candy sweet, mildly floral. Not sure if it reminded me of anything in particular.  I’m sorry I can’t be more specific about the scent at this time.  Overall it’s a great bath ballistic which could be used in combination with many Lush bubble bars and bath melts.

  • Fizzy candy
  • Cinnamon leaf oil
  • Petigrain oil
  • Ylang ylang oil
  • Gardenia extract

1 Auntie Pamela Massage Bar: The scent reminded me of peanut butter brittle but not exactly.  It’s not what I really expected but that’s not a bad thing =).

  • Chamomile powder
  • Rose absolute
  • Ylang ylang oil
  • Vanilla absolute
  • Rose petals
  • Red golden glitter
  • Gardenia extract

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

*Recommended soap bars: Honey I Washed the Kids or Porridge Soap.  I used Miranda Soap only because it was the only one in my bath room.  I keep my Lush (in a plastic container) in another room now to keep them better preserved.

Lush Review: Perfect Post-Blizzard Treat

December 28th, 2010 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Toiletries | 1 Comment »

I really hope everyone has enjoyed/is enjoying the holidays with family and friends!  Did you get all that you wished for?  This period is always pretty hectic for me, like it typically is for everyone but it was filled with a lot of cheer =).

Recently the Northeast was hit hard by a blizzard =(.  I thought this bath cocktail would be perfect as a post-blizzard, post-shoveling, cold recovery, or no particular reason treat for anyone.  So here it is, the peachy pink Rock Star scented bath cocktail ingredients you’ve been waiting for (you won’t want to leave this bath)…

1 So White Bath Ballistic: Reminded me of white chalk scented with florally tart lemon (yes, you read correctly).  I really liked the fragrance of this bath ballistic!  Unfortunately So White is a holiday limited edition bath bomb and is probably harder to find now.

  • Bergamot oil
  • Rose absolute
  • Orange flower absolute
  • Neroli oil

1 Candy Cane Bubble Bar: To my amazement, this reminded me uncanningly of Rock Star soap.  I was definitely expecting something winter minty (it was not at all the case).  I even started doubting myself and thought I stored CCBB next to Rock Star soap and that the scent transferred by doing so (nope).  Sorry, alas another limited edition product.

  • Vanilla absolute

Leftover Bits of Ma Bar Bubble Bar: Sweet like toffee.  One of the most well-liked bubble bars Lush had created as far as I’m concerned.  This bubble bar definitely gave the bath a tanner hue from the chocolate half of the bar.

  • Sweet orange oil
  • Bergamot oil
  • Sugar cube

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

*I recommend Rock Star or Snow Cake soap for this bath cocktail.  I personally used Victoria’s Secret Candy Baby shower gel because I wanted to use it up.

Lush Review: Pop in the Bath Cocktail

September 30th, 2010 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Spa Retreat, Toiletries | No Comments »

I’ve been staring at my Lush goodies for weeks now wondering when there would be some free time for a bath cocktail.  At the end of the day, there’s always something to do- a task of the day that wasn’t quite finished…  Guilt of not getting to certain chores that I had set off to do at the beginning of the day and became so side-tracked by other unforeseen obstacles.  This time I set my foot down for a little treat.  If Venus had bodies of water, they should be as salmon pink as this bath and just as florally sweet.  I created a rejuvenating bath cocktail which Aphrodite would envy and I was surprised at how well the ingredients mingled.

1/3 Easter Egg (Pink) Bath Bomb: Sweet Candy Fluff scent reminding me of pink Peeps marshmallows.

1 Pop in the Bath Bubble Bar: Floral citrus scent, strong but not overwhelmingly so like certain perfumes.  If you love florals, do give this a try. I thought I had sensed a little citrus in this; sure enough it was a correct guess.

  • Bergamot oil
  • Lemon oil
  • Orange flower
  • Mandarin oil

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

Summer Pudding Soap: Love it almost as much as Sandstone Soap.  I really wish this could be part of Lush’s permanent line somehow, though I doubt it since it has such a seasonal name. As an aside, I did make English summer pudding last month (I was inspired by this Lush soap).  The dessert made an excellent end-of-summer delight.

  • Rapeseed oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Ground almonds
  • Glace cherries
  • Almond oil
  • Buchu oil
  • Juniperberry oil
  • Lemon oil
  • Gardenia Extract

Lush Review: Space Girl Bath Cocktail

June 8th, 2010 Posted in beauty products, Lush Reviews, Toiletries | No Comments »

A sweet scented, fun, bright lilac colored bath this time.  To re-create it, use the following…

1 Space Girl Bath Bomb: Fast fizz.  Pretty and mildly sweet florally scent.

  • Grapefruit oil
  • Bergamot oil
  • Almond oil
  • Fizzy candy

1 Creamy Candy Bubble Bar: Smells really candy yummy =)

  • Almond oil
  • Vanilla absolute
  • Candy flowers

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Sweet scent which does remind me of candy cherries.

  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

Rock Star Soap: Has a pink/cherry taffy scent which has really grown on me.  As an aside, it evokes for me happy memories of beach town summertime fun since taffy is a popularly sold candy in these places e.g. Wildwood NJ, Seaside Heights NJ- to name a couple.

  • Rapeseed oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Vanilla absolute

Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Candy Baby Body 3-In-1 Wash for Shower, Bubble Bath & Hair: I was very disappointed in the Candy Baby Body Glimmer Swirl Cream for being nearly scentless that I almost didn’t give the rest of the Beauty Rush line a chance.  I’m glad the 3-in-1 was nothing like its body cream.  I wouldn’t describe my hair as totally super soft after-wash but at least it wasn’t as tough as bricks like some other products will do.  Give this a product a try =).  If there’s a travel-sized, definitely snag it!

Lush Review: Candy Sweet Orange Bath Cocktail

May 17th, 2010 Posted in Lush Reviews, Spa Retreat, Toiletries | No Comments »

This one is from last night. An uplifting sweet and floral mix.  A really fun feminine bath.  Who could ask for more?

1 Hot Java Bath Ballistic: I messaged a Lush guru regarding her big order from Lush England.  She claimed the shipping wasn’t too bad but I beg to differ.  This is the last time I will order from England.  I’ve been finding out that with patience, many new release UK Lush products will eventually be made available in the U.S. within a couple of months.  We are always a bit behind but I think paying for high shipping fees is absurd and totally not worth it.  As for HJ, I really liked this bath bomb.  Fast fizz.  The bath water turned a cheerful bright tangerine with pieces of cinnamon sticks floating around.

  • Ginger & cinnamon powders
  • Ginger, coriander, & juniper essential oils

1 Marzibain Bubble Bar: Created sweet fluffy white bubbles.  I decided to use the entire bar since I wanted more bubbles.  Even so, the bubbles were minimal.

  • Cassie absolute
  • Rose absolute
  • Whole almond (decoration)

1/3 Happy Blooming Bath Melt: Cherry sweet.  Would definitely re-purchase.  I wish Lush came out with more bath melts.  I feel like what they are offering in the bath melt section is so limited when compared to their other bath product categories.

  • Calamine powder
  • Passionflower
  • Dried cherries
  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Ylang ylang oil

A Ring of Roses Soap: A lovely gently floral fragranced soap.  I always worry about anything floral because I really dislike the scent of lavender (smells too medicinal and herbal) and geraniums (smells like burnt plastic).  I know lavender is supposed to be calming, so it’s unfortunate that I dislike that scent.  I do think dried lavender looks gorgeous in a clay vase.  RR was to my relief nicely scented and it left my skin moisturized.  For someone with normal or combo skin, many Lush melts and soaps make post-bath lotion unnecessary. You can see from the list below that it’s jam-packed with lots of goodness.

  • Larkspur
  • Honeysuckle
  • Marigold & cornflower infusion
  • Rapeseed, sunflower, coconut, & evening primrose oils
  • Lemon & sweet orange oils
  • Rose absolute
  • Rose petals

Lush bath cocktails are either as good as or better than going to the spa.  One Lush bath is definitely a tiny fraction of what a spa treatment would cost.  I also dislike running to keep appointments; that’s very stressful to me.  These pampering baths could be drawn at any time you wish.  I admit they aren’t a complete substitute for massages.  They can be considered as something you could enjoy in-between spa treatments.

I would love to try some of your Lush bath cocktail recipes!  Please add your comment =)
