A Home for a Gnome

June 3rd, 2016 Posted in curiosities, Holiday | No Comments »

In 2014, Hallmark launched it’s first gnome home keepsake entitled “A Home for a Gnome” by Hallmark Keepsake Artist Tammy Haddix and while I wasn’t sure if this would indeed become part of a series, I searched again this past year 2015 while I was at my local Hallmark purchasing holiday greeting card sets.  Lo and behold, there it was!  I have a soft spot for the elementals so here are the two I have collected so far with a special Hallmark sneak peek for you (time to get excited!)…

A Little Housekeeping

June 3rd, 2016 Posted in curiosities, Holiday | No Comments »

Hi Everyone :), gosh I have really missed blogging!  I’m back finally and doing a little Spring cleaning… major housekeeping.

My first post back is going to be about the darling Hallmark holiday ornaments I had picked up either before Christmas or during the 75% off post-holiday Hallmark sale back in January 2016.  I have 3 favorites from Christmas 2015.  You can probably still find these in new and pre-loved condition on eBay.  Two of them are musical ornaments and one even lights up.

Christmas Cardinal:

“A flash of red against the snow,

it’s always  such a thrill

to spy a handsome cardinal,

who stays despite the chill

to brighten frosty winter days

with color and a song.

No wonder he is a such a

feathered favorite all year long!”

Hallmark Keepsake Artists: Rodney Gentry & Jim Kemme

Music: “Joy to the World”

Christmas Wishes:

“When you carry Christmas in your heart,

fun and happiness are just the start.

You’ll truly be more joyful you

when you carry Christmas all year through.”

Hallmark Keepsake Artist: Debra Nielsen

Holiday Hoedown:

“It’s time for the Holiday Hoedown-

the annual “Jingle Bells” showdown

where Santa and crew

pick and grin just for you

in a toe-tappin’ musical throwdown.”

Two Holiday Favorites… Kinkade & Redlin Arts

January 10th, 2013 Posted in curiosities, Decor, Fine Arts, Home & Garden | No Comments »

Card-writing has become just a little bit more fun with my discoveries of Thomas Kinkade and Terry Redlin… along with those classic jingles, a mug of warm spicy tea, candlelight, and a large table to spread out and work.  I really envy their artistic skills!  Have you seen how gorgeous Kinkade’s and Redlin’s cards are?  Now that I found them, I wouldn’t dream of sending out anything else; though I might allow for a few exceptions ;).

I’ve been sending Kinkade cards to family and close friends for a few years now.  This Christmas I received a card from my favorite aunt (she’s been very kind to me over the years).  It was none other than Terry Redlin’s “Evening Frost.”  Glitter and an equally beautiful coordinating envelope!  That’s it!  I had to set out to find it and found it, I have!  I’m stocking up for next year.  Maybe this will in-turn inspire another =).

Lights in the Night

I hope all of you have been enjoying your holidays.  They’re not over yet…  Though this is the Christmas season, I’d like to backtrack and post on some cute little Hallow’s Eve items I bought previously in the beginning of October created by Midwest*CBK.  An inexpensive way to spruce up a room during the holidays, be it Christmas or Halloween, are with the use of these darling nightlights.  One of my nephew’s stocking stuffers was an adorable snowman nightlight (showcasing several colors, one melting into the other) I picked up at CVS for just $4.99!  I love CBK’s mosaic apple and pumpkin (holds a flicker bulb) lights!  Christmas and Halloween are not just for kids ;)…

Holiday Pie Embellishments

January 4th, 2012 Posted in Cool Gadgets, Culinary, curiosities, Foods & Desserts, Sweet Tooth | No Comments »

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!  Happy New Year!!!

I spotted these lovely piecrust cutters in the holiday edition of Williams-Sonoma’s catalog and was instantly inspired!  Aren’t the pies just gorgeous with not too much effort even?!  I ordered a set of these holiday cutters and a fall leaves version.  I’m going to get back into baking for sure now!  Some day I would love to present a pretty pie that I made with any of these cutter sets to a party hostess.

I will try my best to remember to post pics of my upcoming pie bake =)

*Update: February 16, 2012:

I recently made a chicken pot pie using these charming pie cutters; just couldn’t wait.  Tasted delicious besides the few darkened spots on the crust.

Hallmark Limited Edition Ornaments

November 2nd, 2011 Posted in curiosities, Decor, Holiday, Home & Garden, Special Projects | No Comments »

I’ve been trying to wrap up my stocking-stuffer shopping for this year at Hallmark and Pier 1.  I have many people to shop for.  I found this sweet little 2011 limited edition cupcake ornament at my local Hallmark and discovered that they began their holiday cupcake series last year.  I was off to search on eBay for the missed 2010 cupcake!  I’m planning to have a small cupcake holiday tree for the first time this Christmas and will share pictures of it =).   This post will continue until the series is completed so come back every Christmas to check out my updates.  I may decide to include pics of my other non-Hallmark cupcake ornaments in a separate blog post; haven’t decided yet…  We’ll see.  Please place a request if you are interested in the second blog post idea. P.S. So far the 2010 and 2011 ornament versions do not have string included to allow for the ornament to be hung.  Any thin gold but sturdy string would compliment nicely!

Holiday Cheer

December 10th, 2008 Posted in Decor, Holiday | No Comments »

Decorating for the holidays can be a lot of work but after all that’s said and done, home just feels that much more special. I love…

clear Christmas lights (makes everything look soft and classy)
our wool hat & mittens advent calendar from Garnet Hill
pine-coned wreaths
mini Christmas trees (true or faux)
pink tinsel
vintage European glass ornaments (from my childhood)
handmade ornaments of cotton batting, felt, wool, wood, or yarn
Rudolph & The Misfit Toys
resin villages which light-up
classic renditions of holiday music
the scent of balsam fir

I also prefer thoughtful cards and stocking stuffers to one large present (it’s much more exciting).
