Many years ago when I first began my graduate program, I carried a very handsome and dependable Perlina black leather backpack. I remembered one snowy night, quite like today, I decided to walk home rather than to wait for the bus (which was uncharacteristically delayed). The backpack had survived my walk through the harsh weather much to my surprise and delight. As soon as I arrived home, I toweled off the snow to preserve the leather. Pictured below is one which looks identical to mine. One feature I loved most about it besides its buttery soft leather was its very convenient side-zip.
These days trying to find a nice leather backpack feels like trying to search for a needle in a haystack. Only every once in a while will you find a really special one (sorry if it sounds overly critical of me). Wish I didn’t allow Rebecca Minkoff’s to get away a couple years back =(. Just recently I spotted one by OrYany and can see for myself why it has received such rave reviews!
I’ve finally discovered the joy of crossbodys after putting aside a long time bias towards those extra large satchels. It’s a choice of carrying your essentials versus all those what-ifs (which many times do not come to fruition) and especially a no brainer when shoulder and backaches are concerned. Minkoff and Lanvin does it in style, I must say! Light, aery, unburdened and ready to shop, shop, shop ;)…
I’ve been loving crossbody bags recently for the obvious reasons (hands-free option and when a big heavy bag isn’t preferable). They are great for date nights (especially theater nights) and when you need to carry only necessities for classes or on errands. Here are two favorites of mine:
Rebecca Minkoff Classics MAC Crossbody Clutch:
“Oversized clip-lock boldly details the front flap pocket of a lightly textured leather clutch designed with an optional chain strap for versatility.
Top zip closure.
Exterior zip pocket under flap.
Protective metal feet.
Interior zip, wall and cell phone pockets; key clip.
Lanvin Metallic Chain Crossbody Bag:
“Signature ribbon-detailed chain strap completes the utterly feminine look of this metallic lambskin bag.
Bronze quilted lambskin and self piped trim.
Chain shoulder strap with black leather top and ribbon detail on side.
Not all designers have utilized rose gold leather as well as in this particular Mini Nikki Rebecca Minkoff pictured below. The minimalistic design flawlessly highlights the rose gold; a perfect design and hardware placement that highlights instead of competes.
As an aside, I prefer rose gold to yellow or white gold and love that it has become more widely used in jewelry than in the past.
I saw these Minkoff bags on sale. The Ruse bag is a really cute business-like bag and probably could be used as one. The MAB bag reminds me a little of the Louis Vuitton Speedy with its duffel shape but is much more stiffly structured than the Speedy. This could be a good thing if you prefer a bag which holds its shape well. The lack of structure was my main qualm with the Speedy.
